Oktoberfest at the Guard House

On Oct. 23, the IV Street Club once again celebrated the coming of Fall in the German tradition with a autumnal dinner. Es war ein unvergesslicher Abend!

For many years, the Guard House was open to the public and was famous for its German fare. Several years ago, its owner retired and the restaurant became the Union League Guard House in Gladwyne. Thanks to the generosity of the League, twenty-seven IV Streeters were on hand for our traditional Oktoberfest dinner, at what is becoming our traditional venue.

The evening started early with cocktails at 5:30 and proceeded to dinner of schnitzel, potatoes and German side dishes.  Dinner topics included full helpings of football, baseball and the coming elections.

Social Chair Mike Kelly reminded members of events yet to come in the 2024 season:

  • 11/5/24 – Election Day Tuesday Lunch at Gulph Mills GC – 11:45 AM – Guests Welcome

  • 12/13/24 – Christmas Lunch and Carols – Acorn Club – 11:45 AM – Members Only

The Steak,  Scotch (or Bourbon) and Cigar Night at Gulph Mills planned for November 14 has been postponed until a date to be determined next year.

The group adjourned about 8:30.
